@TamashiiHiroka I think LGPE really threw a wrench into mainline vs spin-off, but PLA is really the big one. I’m having trouble vocalizing on Twitter what makes a mainline or spin-off. The hard thing about them is they’re not a new gen, but for some reason, also are separate from current gen

@TamashiiHiroka I actually don’t think PLA is mainline, pretty sure Pokémon Legends is its own new sub series. Hence the Pokémon legends:. The colon will will probably allow for Pokémon Pokémon legends titles. Also having too strict a definition means games can’t evolve conceptually as much?

@TamashiiHiroka Like as it stands right now Pokémon let’s go is also a sub series to me. But if every Pokémon game following it used its capture mechanic, then it’d be a mainline game and it would be an “evolution”.

@TamashiiHiroka I also don’t take issue with people considering LGPE a main series games, but immediately to me they were spin-offs. But I’m more inclined to use the terms sub series or side games than spin-off, and maybe retroactively apply that to all remakes.

@TamashiiHiroka Last thing: for me the weirdest part now is how games within the same “generation” can’t really communicate with each other at all except home. Like in gen 3/4 you could have every remake and side game trade directly with each other instead of just thru box or w/e.
